MONOTYPES

A Monotype is a print created by applying ink to a flat blank surface (often plexiglass) and run through a press to transfer the ink onto paper. Because there is no actual engraving or plate manipulation and the image is made only from the application of ink to the plate, monotypes remain single prints, and cannot be reproduced. Stencils were used extensively while printing these images, forming loose narratives.
